Day Trips from Marion

Marion serves as the “Gateway to the northern Delta of the Mississippi.”  Situated on the major north/south interstate route I-55 and a major state highway heading westward HWY 64, Marion provides a great starting point for exploring Crittenden, Mississippi, St. Francis, Cross, Poinsett and Craighead counties.  With Memphis just 10 miles east, there are lots of opportunities to experience southern culture.

Check out County Music Legend Johnny Cash’s boyhood home.  Just a short 33-mile drive north of Marion and you’ll see a fully restored boyhood home of Johnny Cash.  Click here for a map.  For information about the Historic Dyess Colony and Johnny Cash’s boyhood home, visit http://dyesscash.astate.edu/.

Head west on Hwy 64 and you’ll pass through Parkin, AR.   On the bank of the St. Francis River sits The Parkin Archeological State Park.  Believe it or not, some say Hernando De Soto visited this Casqui Indian village and wrote about it in his diaries.
